New brochure released: Ocean Science Centre Mindelo - New Platform for Marine Science in the Tropical Atlantic
A new brochure describes technical and scientific capacities of the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo (OSCM). The overall mission of the OSCM, technical facilities, associated scientific topics as well OSCM’s objectives for academic training, outreach and dialogue are being described and illustrated in detail.
The European Commission is organising the high-level event "Our Atlantic Ocean for Growth and Well-Being” on 21-22. November 2018 in Mindelo. The event will be hosted at the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo in partnership with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany and the National Institute for Fisheries Development INDP, Cabo Verde.
After two and a half years of construction, the new GEOMAR research station in Mindelo, Cape Verde, has been completed. Now the preparations for the scientific operation of the Ocean Science Center Mindelo have begun.
The deep sea is the largest environment on the planet. Most of the deep sea consists of the water column above the seafloor, the pelagic zone. In many parts of the pelagic ocean, no scientific sample has ever been collected.
After nearly two years of planning and coordination work, the construction of the “Ocean Science Centre Mindelo” (OSCM), a scientific platform for marine and atmospheric research off West Africa, can finally start.
